obit for Raymond Hargis

Obit from Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler for Mr. Raymond Earl Hargis

 

Raymond Earl Hargis, 79, of Tyler, died August 27, 2012 at Homeplace Hospice after a long battle with
Parkinson's disease.

Mr. Hargis was born in Houston, Texas, to Jack and Nannie Farris Hargis on Dec. 7, 1932.

He served with honor in the United States Navy during the Korean War, then came home to attend school at
Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where he graduated with degrees in chemistry and
mathematics
.

In 1957 he married the former Nancy Jo Edwards of Nacogdoches, and moved to Tyler to work for
LaGloria refinery laboratory. He moved on to Howe Baker Engineers of Tyler and retired from there as a
research chemist.

His passions were his family, golf, and the various dogs he's had over the years.

Raymond was pre-deceased by his parents, and two infant grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 55
years, Nancy, a sister, Esther Simmons of Lufkin, and a brother and sister-in-law, Jack E. and JoAnn
Hargis of Nacogdoches
.
Other survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Hargis of
Whitehouse, and three daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Rick Traylor of Tomball, Cindy and Glenn
Stone of Dallas, and Rebecca and Steven Smith of Plano.

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no formal funeral services, but his family would like to visit with his friends Friday afternoon, August 31 between the hours of 4 and 6 at Lloyd James funeral home to share memories and remember the good
times.
